Special Olympics supporters came together on Friday night at the REI Co-op parking lot in Billings. This event, sponsored by local law enforcement, had a goal of raising an impressive ,000. It has always been a highlight for Logan Galley.

Logan Galley's Experience

Logan Galley, a junior at Billings West, has had the unique experience of jumping into the water during the Polar Plunge. When asked how it felt when he jumped in, he simply replied, "Cold." This moment showcases the courage and spirit of these participants.For Logan, it's not just about the cold water; it's about the fun and sense of community. The Polar Plunge brings people together in a way that few other events can.

The Impact on West School

Next week, West School will be celebrating a significant achievement - becoming a Special Olympics National Banner Unified Champion. The school has implemented programs that pair students with and without intellectual disabilities to participate in sports, form a leadership team, and be part of the student council.As Drange mentioned, "It shows the acceptance of who they are as an individual. It shows that they belong and they get to participate just like any other student within our school." This inclusive approach is at the heart of what the Special Olympics is all about.

Castle Rock Middle School's Efforts

Castle Rock Middle School is also working towards this same status. The principal and assistant principal are competing to raise money for Special Olympics. The winner will have the honor of getting dunked at the polar plunge.Melissa Hawkins, a Castle Rock teacher, emphasized, "It really helps the whole school to understand what Special Olympics is about as well as to be a part of it. The idea that sports can bring everyone together and our individuals with intellectual disabilities can come together is truly remarkable."

Athletes Preparing for Bowling Competition

In addition to the Polar Plunge, athletes were busy practicing on Wednesday for the upcoming bowling competition in January. Aidan Oak, a Special Olympics bowler, said, "It's really fun. People should try watching the competition."Zayden Beaver, another athlete, echoed the sentiment, "It's always fun. At birthday parties. Just go for fun. I love it all the time." These athletes show the passion and love they have for sports through their words and actions.Alcede Lindell put up a strike and a spare, and his mom celebrated with pride. Elisha Lindell, Alcede's mom, expressed her emotions, saying, "It absolutely warms my heart, gives me goose bumps. I love it. Everybody, they need to support everybody out there."This event not only showcases the athletic abilities of the participants but also highlights the importance of support and acceptance in our society. Special Olympics truly brings out the best in everyone.
