The tournament, originally scheduled to take place at Riviera Country Club, will now be held at Torrey Pines in San Diego from February 13-16. This decision comes as a result of the extensive damage caused by the fires, which have ravaged thousands of structures and claimed numerous lives. Despite the challenges, the infrastructure at Torrey Pines was deemed suitable for hosting the event without major disruptions.

Impact of Wildfires on Los Angeles Sports Events

The recent wildfires have had far-reaching consequences for sporting events in Southern California. Multiple fires, including the Palisades and Eaton blazes, have led to the postponement or relocation of various competitions. These natural disasters have not only affected professional sports but also personal lives, with several athletes and coaches losing their homes. In response to the crisis, organizers have had to make swift decisions to ensure the safety of participants and spectators while maintaining the integrity of the sporting calendar.

The Palisades fire, which erupted earlier this month, burned over 23,000 acres and destroyed more than 6,600 structures, claiming at least 11 lives. Similarly, the Eaton fire near Altadena and Pasadena scorched more than 14,000 acres, destroying over 9,400 buildings and resulting in 17 fatalities. After the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour will move on to an event in Mexico before heading to Florida for further competitions starting on February 27.
